Kefalas, 282m above sea level, is a picturesque village right on the northeast edge of Drapanos peninsula. Narrow streets, white-washed houses and old fashioned kafenions evoke a very romantic mood. Eight churches can be found here. The views from Kefalas to the Bay of Georgioupolis and the White Mountains are spectacular and if the weather is clear, Rethymnon can be seen. Kefalas is untouched by tourism and the old traditional way of life still remains. The distance to the nearest beach is about 3 km. The village has an excellent traditional taverna, several kafenions and a postcard-style mini-market. All other services can be found in Vamos, which is 5 km away.
