All villages have retained their traditional beauty and the spirit of Cretan village life. The entire village population participates in
ceremonies or events, be it a wedding, baptism, funeral, or Easter or Christmas celebrations. With just a few words of Greek, you can easily integrate into
the community and enjoy this laid back life style. Some villages have small markets that are open year-round but the entire area is canvassed by
farmers, fishermen, and general merchants who ply the streets, their small trucks laden with oranges, lemons, grapes, potatoes, onions, all manner of
fish, as well as carpets, clothing and even furniture. It is a sight to see, and a welcome sight indeed just when you need a kilo of potatoes and don't have
the time to go to the market. The market is at your door!
