Description
This rather grand single storey house of 130sqm standing on land in the midst of orange trees.
The house is within minutes of the central village square and comprises:
Entrance: From the gated off-road parking area, a pathway leads past the front garden to a large tiled pergola-covered veranda, then into the hallway through a traditional glazed metal door.
Bedroom 1: to the right of the front door is a good sized double bedroom that has windows looking out over the front garden. This is currently is divided from the room behind with folding doors but could easily be changed if required. However it provides flexibility to change the whole layout of the house.
Bedroom 2: is to the left of the front door. Again a good size this room, with windows to the front and side of the house, is currently in use as a store room.
Living room: the hallway continues to the living room at the rear of the house. This is a large functional room positioned close to the kitchen and has a large dining table for family events.
Bedroom 3: To the right of the living room is a door leading to bedroom 3. This is the room linked to bedroom 1, but could easily be completely separate if required. The room proportions are generous with sufficient room for settees a bed plus a wardrobe, so is quite versatile.
Kitchen: The kitchen is set immediately off the living room and was updated in a traditional style with the refit of the property several years ago. The area is spacious with plentiful working space and is fitted with cooker and free-standing fridge/freezer. The delightful marble sink and work-surfaces have been preserved.
Bathroom: The family bathroom has been fully tiled & fitted with white ceramic fittings, bathtub with shower-tap fitment & a mirrored bathroom cabinet. The room is light, spacious and functional.
General: The flooring throughout is the traditional terrazzo-style which is totally in keeping with the age of the house. The shutters have been made from Irokko hardwood and the internal doors are all taller than average, panelled and of obvious good quality. Whilst there is some work to be done, the majority of the structural work was completed by the current owner’s father. The roof is in good condition and generally the house is attractive. With some cosmetic work and perhaps stripping the doors to expose their natural colour, this house could be a real beauty.
We understand that the original owner was a craftsman who built several prestigeous buildings in Chania and the surrounding area for professional clients including doctors and local politicians.
Externally: The boundary of the property is clearly defined with fencing. The house is located at the rear of the land with a large terrace to the front with a small side terrace. The garden is charming with the perfume of the multiple orange trees wafting across the front veranda from which there is a good open view of the mountains. There is a good sized storage area for wine, oil and bulky supplies under the main front terrace.
To the side of the house is a small builing which backs onto a small village road, so it would be possible to construct a garage here if additional parking is required.
This is a charming family holiday home or for permanent living.
